Ancient Islamic Coins
Coins were considered as one of the most historical sources through the Ancient and Medieval ages. From this, the author sums up many aspects, some of which are the following:
The period in which a coin was issued and, possibly, the name of the ruler of that period and his characteristics.
- The drawing on the other side of the coin has a reason, whether it was a picture of a god, a sacred animal or even a plant or a bird that had its importance in the daily life of the people (1).
- A coin also shows the economic progress of the country that used it.
- If a particular coin was found in a country foreign to its original place, e.g. in the Arabian Peninsula , a number of conclusions can be drawn. The following are the most important ones (2):
- There was a strong relationship between the country in which the coin was found and country that originated it. As can be observed in the situation where a coin was found in Yemen , but originated in Greece , Athens or Persia .
